Demonstration at ISC West 2011 Will Introduce the Company’s New Interoperable Secure Identity Model
LAS VEGAS, Nev., April 4, 2011 – ISC West 2011 – HID Global, trusted leader in solutions for the delivery of secure identity, today announced its next generation access control platform introducing a new, portable secure identity model that provides advanced security and performance functionality while enabling the use of virtual credentials on mobile devices. The new model is based on a Secure Identity Object™ SIO data structure that will be demonstrated on iCLASS® SIO-Enabled™ (SE) access control credentials at ISC West, April 6-8, 2011 at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Readers and credentials based on the iCLASS SE platform will be the first HID access control products to operate under the company’s Trusted Identity Platform™ (TIP) framework, which creates a secure and trusted boundary within which all cryptographic keys governing system security can be delivered with end-to-end privacy and integrity. TIP provides the delivery infrastructure to support traditional card and reader access control applications while implementing HID Global’s new secure data structure overlay consisting of Secure Identity Objects on the credential side and corresponding SIO interpreters on the reader side. Secure Identity Objects can be deployed on a wide range of identity devices including iCLASS credentials, other fixed function technology, global platform cards, mobile phones with Near Field Communications (NFC) capabilities, USB tokens, computer disk drives, and many other formats.
“SIO technology deployed within our TIP framework will enable the migration of physical access control technology beyond cards and readers into a new world of configurable credentials and virtualized contactless solutions that can be securely provisioned, no matter where they are or how they are connected,” said Dr. Selva Selvaratnam, senior vice president and chief technology officer with HID Global.“The technology also enables users to add levels of security, customize security protection, and extend system capabilities without having to overhaul the device infrastructure and applications.”
HID Global’s next generation iCLASS SE platform will drive a complete ecosystem of products and services that will be announced in the coming weeks and months as the company fuels significant advances in how the access control industry delivers and manages secure identity.
Advanced functionality associated with the new iCLASS SE platform includes:
- Trust-Based Security: HID Global’s next-generation reader platform delivers a number of security advances including the assurance of data authenticity so users can detect data tampering. The platform also enhances privacy through data encryption to prevent unwanted data reading, and inhibits cloning since Secure Identity Objects are bound to a single medium. Additionally, the platform includes breach-resistance capabilities such as velocity checking, protection from Key and format attacks, and an Active Tamper feature that deters physical device tampering.
- Usability and Performance: The platform’s standards-based architecture optimizes usability and performance across many applications and deployment scenarios. It will include a variety of out-of-the-box security capabilities, and use a dual-data payload and multi-modulation Software Defined Radio (SDR) architecture so that users can flexibly and efficiently support both Secure Identity Object-based and traditional 125 kHz and 13.56 Mhz credential technologies. The readers will also support many industry- standard communication protocols and communications interfaces, read-prioritization requirements, and user-notification features.
- Environmental Sustainability: HID Global’s next-generation reader platform will include recycled materials for non-essential components and contribute to building LEED credit during project development. The readers also will feature Intelligent Power Management (IPM) capability, which is designed to cut energy costs by reducing the amount of power used to operate units during non-peak hours. IPM is expected to reduce power consumption by as much as 75 percent compared to the reader’s standard operating mode.
